OSB panels are particleboard, which differ from conventional particleboard only that in their manufacture, only about a third of glue is used.
  • These plates are characterized by a high bending strength, durability and stability compared to conventional particleboard. They are also priced with OSB well below the price of others. In addition, they are very popular because of their unique structure.
  • A disadvantage of this flooring is that it (only the clamping adhesive) can come through these plates damage your health because the adhesives used, as these emit formaldehyde. Also, improper installation and poor or improper disposal can be detrimental and could lead to mold growth.

Use of this chipboard flooring

  • For reasonably experienced handyman laying the OSB is not a problem. Before installation, you should store the OSB for at least 48 hours in the room to be laid. The substrate and temperature for installation should not be more than below 15 degrees and the humidity at 75% on this floor covering. For floors with underfloor heating, you should not use these plates as they would be forgiven by the heat.
  • On dry screed the floor covering is laid floating. You should between the screed floor and the OSB a vapor barrier of at least 0.2 mm thick PE film, and possibly also propose a sound insulation. The PE film must be laid to overlap by about 40 cm. You should also pay attention when laying equipped with tongue and groove OSB on a 15 mm distance from the wall. This can easily be achieved with small wedges. In the spring of specific joint glue is applied, then the tongue and groove are pushed together and held in place by hammering. To fix, you should use a hardwood block and a crowbar, so you do not have a direct impact on the plates, which would damage them.
  • Do you want to move the OSB on a floor joists, the distance between the beams should not be greater than 60 cm. In this type of installation, the plates on the tongue and groove are connected by means of a special joint glue and then still screwed. Again, you should ensure that an adequate distance from the wall. Also important here is the right joint glue, as the plates could otherwise loosen. After 8 hours, the flooring can be walked on and after 24 hours to fully load.

If you use OSB as a subfloor and later, for example, carpeting want to put it, you should glue the boards in addition to the underlying wood flooring. In any form of transfer of OSB You should always follow the installation guidelines of the drive manufacturer.
